5 Star Senepol conducted a Senepol bull and female sale on Monday, September the 24th, 2007, at the Gracemere Saleyards, at 9:30am.

This year at the 5 STAR SENEPOL SALE, at Gracemere, we will be offering some new and unique bloodlines sourced from the USA and St Croix.  The 5 star sale represents approximately 70% of the registered BREEDING FEMALES of senepol in Australia, with the 5 star herd being the largest herd of senepols in the southern hemisphere.

With this large population, buyers can be certain of not only the highest quality but also some of the more diverse lines available in the senepol breed.

5 Star Senepols bought out the Hazeldean Benchmark senepol herd last year, thus combining the largest and second largest herds of purebred senepols in the country.  It is important to give buyers a good selection of genetics, with lots of selection pressure on traits, such as fertility, growth, muscling, temperament, tenderness and marbling.  With the extra numbers we are now confident that we can place that pressure on the herd to greatly improve the productivity of the senepol breed.  Instead of just multiplying current and past genetics with embryo transfer, we are also able to select superior future genetics from the top percentile in the herd.  This year we will have approximately 250 senepol heifers calving down in one contemporary group, and will be able to do meaningful comparisons in many of the productive traits.  In the past, no one in Australia has been able to put together large lines of females to place the selection pressure necessary to confidently identify.  The added benefit is that all the selection pressure is placed on females running on forest country, in the tick zone, north east of Biloela, without any chemical treatments.  This helps us identify the female and male lines which do have tropical adaptability, and are able to cope with the stresses in northern Australia.

At this years 5 STAR sale, the best product from three studs, namely 5 STAR, HAZELDEAN BENCHMARK and VALINOR are on offer.  A couple of new outstanding lines will be on offer from renowned high performance bulls from the USA, namely sons of AC761, PRR978, and CN6801J.  Semen has been retained from these bulls, but 3/4 shares and full possession is offered.

As well as 50 select senepol sires, 5 STAR will be offereing 40 Senepol/Charolais bulls, FLUSHED from low birth weight registered Charolais females, from Palgrove and Gunnadoo studs.  These crossbred sires have proved popular in the past, and 5 STAR have received very good feedback over th epast 5 years on their progeny, a good outcross option for commercial breeders.

All sale lots will offer comprehensive Genestar information, on traits for marbling, tenderness and feed efficiency.

In a generous marketing ploy, any buyers attending the 5 Star sale on September 24th at Gracemere, and obtaining a bid card, will have the choice of 10 straws of semen from either THE BEEF 2006 GRAND CHAMPION SENEPOL BULL VALINOR DA VINCI, OR THE RNA 2006 GRAND CHAMPION SENEPOL BULL 5 STAR TITAN, compliments of the Maynard and McCauley families.  THESE BULLS' GENETICS ARE NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ELSE, AND WILL O NLY BE AVAILABLE TO BID CARD HOLDERS ON THE DAY, FREE OF CHARGE.  The estimated value of the semen package is approximately $450.  If potential buyers take the day off to come to our sale, it is only right that we reward them for their time and confidence in our operation.

Another attraction on sale day will be the Beef 2003 Grand Champion Senepol bull 5 STAR BRANDON.  He is currently being used in the 5 Star herd, and semen again has been retained.  Currently he is 5 1/2 years of age, and he sells with 50 straws of semen.
