About Us
We are a small family owned business located in Jambin, central Queensland. The main focus for our Senepol stud is fertility and re-breeding. The seasons of 2017-2019 have been especially challenging, receiving only half of our average rainfall for the past three years. Our genetics were put to the test. This drought has strengthened our genetics immensely, as only the most fertile breeders remain. We were fortunate enough to have received good rain at the start of 2020 which has set us up for a good year.
DNA Testing
We have taken over 500 tissue samples from the Number 19 males and females for DNA analysis and Parent Verification. Currently we are taking samples from the number 20's males and females to do the same. We are also involved in a project with the University of Queensland in identifying and marketing fertility and carcase traits.
No tick or fly treatment
Five Star Senepol cattle have built up their natural immunity to ticks and flies, they are only treated with chemical if they are travelling to tick free areas and need to be cleared. Their slick coats helps our cattle to do well in any conditions and saves a lot of money on annual treatments.
How does hybrid vigour gains work?
Hybrid vigour is evident, when two unrelated genotypes are used. The amount of hybrid vigour is proportional to the un-relatedness of the genetics. See the example below:
